Thank you for your interest in Mulberry Bush English for Children in School!

This program is for First and Second graders in German elementary schools. An additional program for third and fourth graders is planned.

The classes include singing songs, story telling, doing arts and crafts, and various play activities. It is taught primarily in English, and German is only used in a supportive way.

Children will learn according to the Hessischen Grundschulrahmenplan für die 3. und 4. Klasse.

  • To listen carefully in order to be able to recognize and reproduce English sounds.
  • To socialize:
    To welcome each other: Hello. / Hi! / Good morning. / Good afternoon.
    To say goodbye: Goodbye. / Bye-bye. / Bye. / See you tomorrow. / Later.
    To apologize: Excuse me. / I'm sorry. / Pardon.
  • To ask basic questions in English:
    To ask about someone's condition: How are you? / Are you ready/hungry ...?
    To get information: Do you have ...? / Have you got ...? / What's this/that? / Where is ...? / How old are you? / Where do you live?
    To make requests: Can you give ...? / Can you help me ...?
    To clarify: Sorry, I don't understand. Can you say it again, please? / What is it in German? / What is the English word for ...?
    To offer something: Would you like ...?
    To express pleasures/displeasures: That's nice / right / wrong / okay / I like it. / I don't like it. / I'm fine.
  • To use common social expressions: Have a nice day! / Happy birthday! / Merry Christmas!

  • To recount simple English stories.
  • To build up an active vocabulary within the ranges of nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions and conjunctions.
  • To write individual words.
  • To deal patiently with language gaps and to use their fantasy.
  • To experience an English-speaking environment.

English as a foreign language is introduced playfully to the children, in small groups of 6 children maximum, through the visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning channels.

No school books are used. Surprise material for the third and fourth grades.

Informal approach to English grammar.

The active vocabulary is not checked through vocabulary tests or dictations.

Children will become familiar with English through a variety of fun activities and material appropriate for children six to Nine years old.

German is used sparingly.

We do not use schoolbooks. Most of the material is developed by the teachers themselves and is appropriate for children six to Nine years old.

Special attention is paid to the pronunciation of the English language.

Didactic language-teaching principles are fundamental to the classroom concepts.

Listening and pointing.

Playing games.

Arranging pictures of a story in the correct order.

Reinforcing vocabulary through drawing.

Recognizing individual words from texts.

Assuming roles in role-playing.

Listening to stories and answering related “Right/Wrong” questions.

Doing handicrafts in relation to a certain topic.

Doing visual arts in relation to a certain topic.

Working with materials for 1st and 2nd graders.

Taking part in certain class routines, including singing welcome and goodbye songs.

Regional studies and seasonal topics are addressed.

Group size:
Six children maximum.

Age:
  Six to Nine years old.

  Once a week; 45 minutes.
